Conservation Program Coordinator
Chapter: Delta (Louisiana) Chapter of the Sierra Club
Reports To: Chapter Chair
Context: The Conservation Program Coordinator organizes and implements conservation programs, campaigns or initiatives, using such activities to increase club member and volunteer involvement. Program activities may include clean energy, green jobs, air/water quality, wetlands preservation, forest conservation, endangered species and educational outings.
Scope: Under direction of the Chapter Chair, implements the Chapter’s conservation program objectives.
Term: Two year term full time position with possibility of extension.
Salary: $28,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Activities:
1. Develops and implements campaign strategies for conservation programs and projects in accordance with chapter direction.
2. Recruits, coordinates and facilitates grassroots involvement in conservation programs. Recruits club member and/or non club member volunteers to perform conservation related work. Works closely with Delta Chapter groups to strengthen membership and group leadership.
3. Makes presentations to community, political, and governmental bodies regarding chapter conservation efforts. Writes press releases, newsletter articles, flyers, and works with webmaster to maintain chapter website to keep club membership and the general public informed.
4. Monitors and evaluates laws, initiatives and new developments affecting conservation issues at the community, state and national levels.
5. Advocates the Sierra Club position on proposed legislation involving conservation programs; informs and communicates with elected officials, business leaders, governmental agencies, and other non‑profit organizations.
6. Works on task forces, committees, etc. representing Sierra Club and Delta Chapter programs and objectives. Works with allied environmental organizations in Louisiana.
7. Increase awareness of Sierra Club Delta Chapter through public speaking and media initiatives. Works with media representatives to insure that the message of the Sierra Club is accurately represented.
8. Fundraising including application for grants, solicitation of donations, sponsors for events and campaigns, and new members recruitment.
9. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Work Location:
Conservation Coordinator will work in office locations in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Some automobile travel to activity locations and meetings will be required. Works evenings and weekends as necessary to conduct events and attend meetings.

Required Knowledge & Skills:
– BA/BS degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science or a closely related field.
– 1-2 years experience in the environmental field that includes research and organizing campaigns, press relations and public speaking.
– Excellent written and oral communication skills.
– Proficient computer skills
– Demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with Non Governmental Organizations, public, media, and volunteers.
